Pros and Cons: Private vs. Government Employment

 In the starting phase of our career, we all think about the government sector or private sector for jobs, what to choose between both? We can’t decide, which one is better because both have their own benefits and disadvantages. Where private jobs may provide you with a lavish lifestyle and government jobs can give you a little life. Where young minds want to work with bigshot IT companies like Google, Amazon, Microsoft, and Oracle on the other hand you need to crack exams like UPSC, SSC, etc., and then wait for your selection process for around a year.

So before taking your decision you should know about both’s advantages and disadvantages then select your choice.

Private Jobs

Private companies are normally hiring on the basis of their recruitment process, they have several rounds in this process (aptitude, technical skills, managerial skills, etc.) by the way the private sector jobs do not guarantee job security however if you have enough capabilities you can have a high career growth in a short time.

  3. Here your recruitment process is complete in only some days, it is not as the government recruitment process which can be around 8 to 10 months or a year.
  4. The private sector jobs offer you to learn more and provide you with various learning opportunities because your exposure can be beneficial for the company also.

Disadvantages:

  1. The private sector jobs are unstable that's why some candidates go for the government jobs. This is the biggest disadvantage of the private sector. They can fire you if your performance is weak, due to recession and many other problems are facing by the private sector.
  2. In the private sector, your growth depends on your performance, and in today's time, we need to face high competition among the employees.
  3. The workload in private jobs is high on an employee. You need to complete maximum work within a short deadline. It completely depends on your efficiency.
  4. In the private sector, you may not get a decent salary after an age or you fired by them. Because they want efficient, fast youth generation, they can’t afford you after an age. After retirement, you may not get a pension as the government gives. May private companies have started to provide benefits after retirement.

Government Job:

Every year a large number of engineers fight for the government exams such as UPSC, SSC, CGL, RBI, etc. form many years, government jobs are the most liked jobs, and in the last few years, the government offers various career options and opportunities for the graduate students as like DRDO, ISRO, etc. for getting these opportunities many working candidates quit their jobs. They have many reasons behind it such as job stability, hassle-free work, and many others. They all know about the election process for government jobs, the selection process is very lengthy. For government jobs you have clear many steps to get this such as written, physical test, medical test, group discussion, and interview, etc., it will take around 8 to 10 months.

Advantages:

  1. Your government job comes with stability, govt. Jobs are secure. This is the main reason why people like government jobs. In a government job, you can’t be fired without any big reason such as forged documents, corruption charges, etc.
  2. When you reach the top-level position in a government job, it rewards you the respect and honor in your society. Money can’t buy respect and honor but government jobs can.
  3. In government jobs, your workload is lesser than in private jobs because in it the complete work is divided uniformly. That's why government jobs are good for your mental state also. You can distribute your time for the office and for your personal life.
  4. As the private sector offers you some benefits like reimbursements, incentives, outings, etc. government jobs also provide some extra benefits like medical claims, travel allowances, residence facilities, etc.

Disadvantages:

  1. In government, jobs provide you a decent salary for certain posts but still, it is lesser the private sector. Also, you didn’t get any appraisal or reward for your good performance.
  2. In government jobs, your promotion and appraisal are based on how long you work for a department. But in private it depends on your performance.
  3. The selection process for government jobs is quite lengthy compared to the private sector. In the private sector, you can get a job in a week after the interview but the government selection process can be 8 to 10 months.
  4. Usually in government sector usually work on the long-term process, and they don't have a short deadline to complete the task. It creates a lazy work environment for the employees. They don’t talk about innovation and new ideas for updating.

After a long discussion we are on the decision that government jobs and private jobs, both are equal because both have their own benefits and disadvantages. So now you can decide on your job sector. If you want money then you can go for the private sector or if you want honor then you can go for the government sector, if you want a lavish lifestyle and a busy day then go for the private or if you want a less workload comparison to private jobs then go for the government jobs. The decision is yours.
