What is the difference between electrical and telecommunications engineering (ECE) and electrical engineering (EE), and which is best?
Electrical Engineering and Electronics & Communication Engineering are similar to a large extent. But they deal with the different aspects of electricity and the transmission of electricity altogether. In order to understand it easily, electrical engineering is a broad subject. It provides the students of top engineering colleges with basic knowledge of electronics and communication engineering. However, electronics and communication engineering is a subject-specific course. It deals with electronics and its applications in the field of communication.
Also, it is important to understand that both engineering courses. That can be pursued at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels at most of the Top BTech Colleges in India.
The real meaning
What is Electrical Engineering?
Electrical Engineering deals with electricity and the transmission of electricity from point A to point B. The transmission is the top factor of concern for electrical engineering. It also helps the students of Top Private Engineering Colleges to learn about what they need to do at both Point A and Point B in order to ensure smooth production, functioning, transmission as well as storage of the electricity.
Some subjects taught under the electrical engineering programs provided by the electrical engineering colleges of India. Every college or university has its own curriculum which is followed by the students of electrical engineering. Therefore, subjects can be more or less similar. Again, the subjects taught will differ between the levels of education. That the student aims to pursue, i.e. undergraduate or postgraduate or doctoral level.
What is Electronics and Communication Engineering?
Students of Electronics and communication engineering may confuse electronics with electrical engineering. However, the electronics part of the course deals primarily with the devices and computer chips. It helps in utilizing the transmission of electricity. The students of BTech Colleges who pursue electronics and communication engineering will be specializing in electronics and communication rather than completing an entire course on electrical engineering.
The curriculum of an electronics and communication program includes basic engineering subjects like Mathematics, Physics, and Chemistry. However, depending on the level of education at which the program is being pursued. That is, undergraduate or postgraduate, the subjects that will be taught under their programs will differ.
Eligibility criteria of Electrical and electronics and Communication Engineering
The candidates who wish to pursue electronics or electrical engineering must belong to the science background. In order to take admission to any of the engineering programs, an aspirant will need to sit for an entrance test. Test like the Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) or any equivalent common entrance test.
The candidates who wish to pursue a Master’s program in either branch are required to sit for an entrance test meant for postgraduate admissions like Graduate Aptitude Test for Engineering (GATE). The admissions into any one of these programs are based on the performance of the candidate in the qualifying examinations along with the score or the rank obtained in the common entrance tests for admission.
One of the major facets of electrical engineering and electronics and communications engineering is the list of sub-specializations under each of the programs. The list of sub-specializations will differ for both the programs. It is significant to understand that sub-specializations are offered only at the postgraduate level. At the undergraduate level, the students will only be taught the basics and general information of the courses.
Sub-Specializations of engineering branch
Electrical Engineering
Students who are interested in pursuing a postgraduate program in Electrical Engineering from best engineering colleges like MTech or M.E. will be provided an option for choosing a sub-specialization within electrical engineering. There are some sub-specializations of electrical engineering for aspiring postgraduate students. That includes Electronics, Microelectronics, Instrumentations, Telecommunications, Mechatronics, Signal Processing, etc.
These sub-specializations commonly offered at the electrical engineering colleges of India. They can choose to follow one of these sub-specializations for their Master’s in Electrical Engineering program.
Electronics and Communication Engineering
Once the candidates have completed their undergraduate program in this course and have planned to pursue a postgraduate program in the course, they will be provided with various options as sub-specializations of electronics and communication engineering. This course allows students of engineering colleges to opt for certain specializations like VLSI Engineering, Computer Engineering, Telecommunications, Control Engineering, Signal Processing, Instrumentation Engineering, etc.
Scope of engineering branch
Electrical Engineering
After completing their program under Electrical Engineering at top engineering colleges Rajasthan, the scope of an Electrical Engineering student will be high. However, the merit of the student along with his/her skills and knowledge of the subject will heavily affect the scope of electrical engineering. The scope of an Electrical Engineer also depends on the level of education that has been pursued by the student.
It is not common for students to pursue an MTech or an M.E. after completing a BTech or a B.E. under Electrical Engineering. Instead, having a postgraduate degree will always add to the overall desirability of the candidate for a job.
Electronics and Communication Engineering
Like many other branches of engineering, students of Electronics and Communication Engineering have many opportunities and scope in terms of the kind of job that will be available to them. However, like other branches, the merit of the student along with his/her skills and knowledge under electronics and communication engineering will be the primary criteria that will guarantee his/her job and career opportunities. Also, having a postgraduate degree in Electronics and Communication Engineering will affect the scope of an electronics and communication engineer.
